Over the years, new water bottle companies have surged in popularity due to their unique features and designs. Stanleys have largely been considered one of the trendiest water bottles across the Upper School, although it now appears a new competitor has demoted them to second place: Owalas.
Among both non athletes and athletes, Owalas seem to be the most popular due to their practicality, versatility, and variety of colors to choose from. Many athletes prefer the Owala water bottle due to both its built in straw feature, which allows for easy access, as well as its ability to keep drinks cold for a long period of time, enabling athletes to remain hydrated during grueling practice sessions.
As an Owala user myself, I also find it to be the most useful water bottle as it features a secure lid that prevents water leakage. Some of its most notable features include a unique handle that allows for easy carry while simultaneously covering the lid button to prevent accidental spillage, flat areas along the sides of the bottle allowing for an easy grip, and eye-catching designs.
But how do students feel about other drinking vessels? Though not a popular choice, one student noted that the Green Gatorade water bottle is their favorite because it’s lightweight and easy to drink from. Additionally, it features rubber padding that prevents the water bottle from rolling and denting easily.
Hydroflasks were also a fan favorite among students with reasons similar to the Owala: it helps drinks stay cold and has a straw feature that is quick and easy to drink from. Although Hydroflasks were historically popular, the Owala overtake has caused Hydroflasks to take a back seat.
Among some of the disliked water bottles is the Lululemon water bottle. One student noted that this water bottle is not ideal because it has a screw top rather than a straw top. In addition, another said that unlike Owalas and Stanleys, the Lululemon water bottles do not keep drinks cold throughout the day and can sometimes leak. As a previous Lululemon water bottle user, I enjoyed the appearance of the water bottle and did not mind the screw top; however the water bottle dented easily and leaked occasionally.
While there are countless different water bottles in the Upper School, only one gets to take the trophy home. In my opinion, if you are looking for a practical and well rounded water bottle for everyday and athletic use, Owalas are the perfect choice.
